Abstract

Objective To explore the international research status and hotspots of safe medication in children with atopic dermatitis (AD), and to provide references for domestic treatment protocols and research development in this field.

Methods Based on the Web of Science Core Collection, English-language literature was retrieved from inception to December 8, 2025. CiteSpace software was used to analyze the country/region, institution, discipline category, keyword co-occurrence, clustering and emergence analysis.

Results A total of 1,065 articles were included, annual publications showed an upward trend. The research institutions were mainly universities and hospitals. This field of research encompasses a range of disciplines, including dermatology, immunology and allergology. Research hotspots focused on drug safety (e.g., pimecrolimus, tacrolimus, dupilumab), comorbidity management (e.g., food allergy, asthma), and treatment guidelines, with increasing attention to the long-term safety of systemic targeted therapies and comprehensive management strategies.

Conclusions Research on safe medication for pediatric AD is becoming increasingly active, showing an evolving trend from safety evaluation of traditional topical medications to long-term safety of systemic targeted therapies and comprehensive management strategies. China's standing in this field is rapidly rising, and in the future, real-world research and the localized guidelines will be further developed to improve the safety of pediatric medicines.
