Objective To investigate the impact of analgesic use on the risk of asthma development in different body fat levels.
Methods Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 2011 and 2018 were utilized. Logistic regression analysis was employed to assess the correlation between prescription analgesic use and asthma risk. Subgroup analyses were conducted to evaluate the influence of different body compositions on the association between analgesic use and asthma.
Results A total of 1,984 participants were included, among which 244 (12.29%) had asthma. After adjusting for confounding factors, Logistic regression results showed that analgesic use was significantly associated with an increased risk of asthma [OR=2.14, 95% CI (1.14, 4.00)]. This association remained statistically significant in subgroups with high fat mass, low lean body mass, and high fat percentage.
Conclusion This study found that analgesic use was associated with an increased risk of asthma. Additionally, populations with high fat mass, low lean body mass, and high body fat percentage had significantly higher asthma risk.
